For couples who want something a little out of the ordinary, Asbury Park Boardwalk provides the perfect backdrop for your NJ engagement photo session.
Unlike most New Jersey engagement sessions locations, Asbury Park offers a variety of backdrops that are ever evolving as different art installations are added or removed.
This means each couple's photos will be a little bit different, and we think that's a good thing. One of the biggest challenges in this industry, is to put our own spin on popular places.
PARKING: During busy season (Memorial Day-Labor Day) we suggest arriving early because finding a parking spot close to the boardwalk can be challenging. Even during the off-season when there is ample parking, be sure to download the Asbury Park Parking app as there is a small fee to park in numbered spots all year round.
A CHANGE OF CLOTHES: Almost all of our couples bring a change of clothes for their engagement sessions in Asbury Park. Most opt for a more casual and comfortable look that can work on the beach during the day, and change into a more attire for sunset and/or night time images. This also helps you stay dry if you adventure out close to the water/near the jetty.
PLAN AHEAD: If you have the chance, look through some of our numerous Asbury Park engagement galleries so you can let us know what speaks to you. There are so many locations and backdrops to use, that it would be impossible use them all in one session.
While there are some staple locations (like the old carousel!) that we love to use for every engagement session in Asbury Park, we like to mix it up a little bit for every couple, which makes every session a little bit different.
That means you get a gallery that is uniquely yours and not just a carbon copy of someone else's.
EVEN IF YOU LOVE ALL OF OUR ASBURY PARK PHOTOGRAPHY - DON'T YOU WANT IMAGES THAT HAVE YOUR OWN LITTLE TWIST/SPIN ON THEM?
Here are some of our favorite aspects and highlights of different areas we love when photographing on (and around) the Asbury Park boardwalk.
P.S. Don't forget to come a little early or leave a little later so you can sample at least one of the delicious restaurant options in the area.
NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY: While most people usually associate sunsets on the beach/boardwalk, we like to think that some of our best photography in Asbury Park happens when the sun has gone down.
START TIME: If you fancy the idea of some night photographs to bookend your Asbury Park engagement session, we suggest starting a little bit later than normal. Probably an hour before sunset so we can still capture some golden hour magic, but with enough time to capture some drama after dark!
UNIQUE ARTWORK: Chances are you've seen some of the stunning murals and artwork from Wooden Walls Project on the Asbury Park Boardwalk, and we love to use them for photography too! There are many options to pick from, and the great part is - the murals rotate/change every season too, so you'll always have something fresh and new!
RAIN OR SHINE: We always defer to our couples when it comes to postponing a session due to weather. Most people tend to want to avoid getting wet, but some like to live on the adventurous side. Working in the rain obviously has challenges, but Asbury Park does look both romantic and rad at night during a summer rain.
DOG FRIENDLY: While the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park is known amongst dog owners for its famous "Yappy Hour!" your four legged friend is also more than welcome to join in on your engagement session. It is important to know that during busy season, dogs aren't allowed on certain parts of the boardwalk, but we know all of the right spots so you can include your pup as part of your love story!
The Wooden Walls Project is an artist collective that installs and maintains murals, and other art installations on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. Their work and vision really adds a vibrant flair to the vibe in Asbury! They are a great organization and we support them with a few donations every year. If you end up having your engagement session in Asbury Park, we encourage you to contribute to The Wooden Walls Project, if you are able to!
Here's a link to their website where you can read more about their work to keep the boardwalk filled with new art every year!
Brittany and Keith drove all the way to Asbury Park from Connecticut for their engagement session. They were treated with a glowing sunset. There was a bit of wind, but we actually had fun with it. After visiting the murals, we stopped in a variety of different areas on the boardwalk. Brittany and Keith changed into more formal attire for their dusk and night photos. The rich Navy blue colors in their outfits, match the fading blue light of dusk rather well!
Brianna and Anthony started with some golden hour photos of their dog on the beach. We took a stroll past the murals before they changed, and went back to the beach to play, spin, and dance with each other right on the edge of the beach amongst the surf. After drying off a bit we finished the evening with some dramatic + creative night images.
