When we met Jackie & Jake last March, they were busy planning their Box House Hotel wedding, and already knew the wedding photography style they were going for: classy, timeless, candid, and most importantly: photos that authentically showed themselves & their guests having fun!
To create a cohesive story, we kept Jackie and Jake’s priorities on the top of our minds for both their Brooklyn engagement session, and their wedding itself. I never mind making the trip into the city for a couple like this!
(Here’s a link for later; some tips on planning your engagement session!)
During their engagement session, we were welcomed into their home as they played their favorite records together, sprawled comfortably across their floor while cheers-ing to homemade cocktails. Afterwards, we walked to their usual neighborhood spots for sunset – creating photos and memories that truly embodied their relaxed and jovial relationship.
On the day of their Box House Hotel wedding, we ensured to capture the moments that were most important to Jake and Jackie – such as Jackie’s first look with her father & bridesmaids as well as their first look together as a couple – while focusing less on detail photos, and more on the spontaneous instances that made their wedding unique.
Jake and Jackie knew they didn’t want only formal, staged shots. We focused on capturing those behind-the-scenes candids full of raw emotion, like Jake’s mother taking a deep breath before walking down the aisle, guests dancing and laughing under the disco ball, and Jackie sharing a happy tear with a family member during a tender private moment.
They also wanted dramatic, bold portraits that represented their vibe, so we made sure to spend time creating some striking, artistic images that highlighted their unique style and the vibrant energy of their wedding day.
During their Box House Hotel wedding reception, we knew Jackie wanted an old-school Hollywood “Paparazzi” style approach for at least a portion of the gallery, so we shifted technique to use direct-flash photography for stylistic photos of the newlyweds in front of NYC cabs, pouring into a champagne tower, and more glam dance floor moments.
Overall, Jackie and Jake’s photos strike the perfect balance of raw emotion and the seriousness of marriage. All mixed with plenty of laughter, fun, and partying.
As you prepare for your wedding story, don’t be afraid to speak up about the type of photography style you want. While we always try for a nice mix between candid and posed, we want to know your preferences as this is your day! This ensures our team will perfectly capture your moments, which will be cherished for a lifetime.
Thank you, Jackie and Jake, for a wonderful experience together—your wedding was one of my favorites ever!
